8—Motion Capture Machine, Installation, Video, Posters
During a workshop with Roel Wouters, we were asked to design a machine that could create a series of posters. The only parameter was that every poster would be different but produced with the same principles. How can objects adapt to their environment? What do these changes emphasize and reveal?
The poster machine creates an obstacle that reflects how individuals respond to obstructions in space and visually records movement within that space. Using a structure that suspends 96 markers in a grid, the tips of markers touched a sheet of paper on the floor allowing movement to be captured as people pushed through the wall of string and markers. We used markers because they bleed, thus, reflecting moments of activity as well as stillness over time.
